LHES: Volume 5 Issue 1 (May 3rd - 7th)
This month we celebrate...
Teacher Appreciation Week: "Stronger Together"
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3rd-7th, with National Teacher Day on May 4th. We know it is important to recognize teachers for their hard work, but this year is especially important. Working remotely and continuing to create the Holton feeling we all love, has been challenging. However, WE ARE HOLTON and we will always find a way to thrive! Here are a few ways you can show your little lions teachers they are loved and appreciated.
- Have your child write and mail a letter to their teacher. This can be an especially heartfelt gesture if the teacher taught your child how to write this year.
- Send your teacher a gift card for food or classroom supplies.
- Send an e-card that’s sure to brighten your teacher’s day.
- Make a poster for your teacher with thank-you notes on it and mail it or take a picture to share.
- Ask your teacher what their favorite treat is and mail or drop it off for them to enjoy.
- During Teacher Appreciation Week, use the social media hashtag #ThankATeacher from the National PTA and share how educators have brightened your or your child’s life. Don’t forget to tag the school (@LinwwodHoltonES)
- Record a video of your child saying thank you to their teacher and email it to them.
- Write an email to your child’s teacher expressing your gratitude as a caregiver for all they’ve done this year.
- Send flowers for a gift that’s sure to brighten their day.
- Give your teacher something to help them practice a little self-care, like a journal or a nice-smelling candle.
Asian American Month
This #AAPIHeritageMonth, we honor our Asian Pacific American communities and recognize their history, culture, and contributions to our commonwealth.
Lupus Awareness Month
Older American Month
"Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The theme for 2021 is "Communities of Strength."
Mental Health Awareness Month
"Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI ) joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families. Their goal is to ensure no one feels alone!"
The overall theme this year is "Tools 2 Thrive", and the goal is make sure everyone has access to the tools they need in order improve their mental mental and increase their resilience regardless of their personal situation.
Here are some data points you can use to speak to the scope of mental health:
- 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year.
- 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year.
- 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year.
- 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24.
- Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10-34.
