Date Change Alert
Greetings Linwood Holton Parents & Caregivers
We take pride in our commitment to partner with you in preparing your child for their future. Building trust and authentic relationships with you is one of our top priorities and is important for us to achieve our school’s mission. Each year, we want to be better at serving your family, not only with the best education possible but also with the best environment for their growth and development. To do that, we need your guidance on what we are doing well and what we can do better.
Beginning May 16, RPS will hold our 2022 Family Engagement Survey. Please take a few moments to provide your honest feedback on our performance as a school. Your voice will help us prepare for SY 2022-23.
Please note the following about the survey:
This survey will be open until June 15, 2022.
It will take around 10 - 15 minutes to complete the survey.
All responses will remain anonymous and no personal information will be shared.
If you need assistance completing this survey, please call our Family Support Line at 804-780-6195 or email us at outreach@rvaschools.net.
We encourage everyone to take part in this process and look forward to your feedback. Each survey is confidential and should be completed one time for each student enrolled in RPS. https://survey.k12insight.com/r/remind

Spring 2022 SOL Testing Starts TOMORROW!!
SOL Testing is HERE!
Please ensure your little lion:
Gets a good night’s sleep. Going to bed on time and waking early enough to prepare to come to school without rushing will be super helpful for them.
Eats a healthy breakfast the morning of testing
Arrives to school on time (at 7:30 am) no later than 8:00 am!
Testing material check-out is from 7:45 - 8:15 am...testing starts promptly at 9:00 am.
Refrains from bringing personal electronic devices into SOL testing rooms. If they go off, this will end testing and cause your child along with the entire class to have to test again. Make sure you have this conversation with your students now.
We also ask that you:
Try to avoid upsetting your child about anything before he/she leaves from home. Instead add a positive note to your child's backpack to encourage them during testing.
Before your child leaves home, give him/her a hug and words of encouragement.
Emphasize the importance of keeping a “positive attitude’ and encourage him/her to complete all items on each test to their best ability.
Remember that assessments are important, but they do not determine a students level of success. They are used to determine HOW we help children reach success.

Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Mikaela Forshay, LHES Grade K Teacher
Mrs. Forshay has been a part of the kindergarten team for the past 4 years! Originally from Chesapeake, she moved to Richmond to attend VCU and has made Richmond her permanent home. She grew up a math "whiz" but found her deepest love is teaching our kindergartners how to read. It is her true passion. The love for teaching runs deep in the Forshay household, as her husband also teaches for RPS.
When Mrs. Forshay isn’t singing and dancing in her classroom, you will probably find her running, biking, swimming, or cooking! This year she is competing in her first ever sprint triathlon and hopes to do more in the future!

Mathematics in Everyday Conversation and Play
"How many jellybeans can I fit in my mouth?" This week’s blog describes ways that mathematical thinking is a natural feature of how young children make
sense of the world and their relationships with adults and peers. We also describe how you, as an educator, can more clearly observe, note, and encourage
the mathematical ideas of young children in everyday conversation and play.

RPS Information about Mask Mandates
- A parent/caregiver must formally request that their student not wear a mask (no documentation required). They will need to email COVIDrps@rvaschools.net and indicate the child’s name and school.
- It is the expectation that we respect every child/family’s personal choice regarding masks. We WILL NOT segregate children for their parents making the request/not wearing a mask.
- Not wearing a mask will increase the number of students quarantined from a positive case because the 3-6 foot waiver does not apply if masks are not worn by both individuals. If parents want to limit quarantine risk, continuing to have their child wear a mask (and get their child vaccinated) are the best strategies.
- If a student is participating in Test to Stay (versus quarantining at home), they must wear a mask.
